If you’re serious about racing – whether in real life or online – you’ve probably heard of iRacing. It’s not just a game –  it’s a full-on simulator that pros use to train. I’ve been using it to sharpen my skills, and I can honestly say it’s made me a better driver.

What makes iRacing different?

Unlike arcade-style racing games, iRacing is built for realism. The tracks are laser-scanned, so every bump and curb is exactly like the real thing. The cars handle just like they do in real life – so if you’re too aggressive on the throttle, you’ll spin. If you push too hard into a corner, you’ll understeer off the track.

Plus, you can’t just crash into people and keep going. iRacing has a safety rating system, meaning if you drive recklessly, you’ll get penalised. It forces you to race clean, just like in real life.

How iRacing helps me improve

For me, iRacing isn’t just about fun – it’s about getting better. It helps with:

  • Racecraft – Learning how to defend, overtake, and manage traffic.
  • Consistency – Hitting the same braking points and apexes lap after lap.
  • Car Control – Feeling how the car reacts in different conditions.

I’ve even raced against real pros, which is something you won’t get in other sims.

Should you try iRacing?

If you just want to muck around, iRacing might feel too serious. But if you want to improve your racing skills and compete against real drivers, it’s the best sim out there. The only downside? It’s addictive.
