East Meets Speed: My Dream to Race in Japan

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreamed of racing in Japan. Maybe it’s because I’m half-Japanese, or maybe it’s because Japan has some of the coolest racing culture in the world. From the legendary Super GT series to the intense world of Formula Nippon, there’s just something special about motorsport there. One day, I want to be on those grids, racing against the best.

Why Japan?

Racing in New Zealand is giving me a strong foundation – there’s so much talent here, and the competition is fierce. But Japan has an insane mix of precision, passion, and style. The tracks there – Suzuka, Fuji Speedway, Tsukuba – are legendary, and the drivers are some of the most disciplined and skilled in the world.

Plus, Japanese motorsport has a unique culture. The fans are next-level passionate, the cars are engineered to perfection, and even grassroots racing has a crazy amount of respect and tradition. Whether it’s Super GT, drifting in the mountains, or time attack battles, Japan breathes motorsport.

The Road to getting there

I know that making it to Japan as a racing driver won’t be easy. The competition is fierce, and getting noticed takes more than just talent – it takes connections, sponsors, and proving yourself on every level. That’s why I’m pushing as hard as I can in every race I enter now, learning as much as possible, and making the most of every opportunity. It’s also why I studied Japanese all through college – hopefully the language barrier won’t be too bad!

One thing I love about racing is that it’s universal. It doesn’t matter where you’re from – if you’re fast, smart, and consistent, you can go places. That’s what keeps me pushing. One day, I want to stand on a podium in the country that feels like a second home.

Never Stop Chasing It

For now, I’m taking it one race at a time, always improving, always looking for the next step forward. Whether it’s iRacing late at night, working with my coach, or watching onboard laps of Fuji, I’m always thinking about how to get better.

One day, I’ll make it back to Japan, this time as a racing driver. And when I do, I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.
