As a young driver with both New Zealand and Japanese heritage, I feel incredibly lucky to come from two nations with such rich motorsport traditions. It’s humbling to think about the legends who’ve come before me, and it fills me with excitement to represent both cultures every time I get in the car.
New Zealand: Bold and Innovative
New Zealand is a small country, but its impact on motorsport is massive. Growing up hearing about Bruce McLaren and the legacy he built with his Formula 1 team is so inspiring. Then there’s Liam Lawson, Scott Dixon, Shane Van Gisbergen, and many others who prove that Kiwis can take on the world and win. Kiwi race drivers are known for their creativity and grit, and I hope to carry a bit of that boldness with me on the track.
Japan: Precise and Determined
Japan brings me a different kind of inspiration. Drivers like Takuma Sato have shown the world what’s possible with determination and discipline. And the cars, brands like Honda, Toyota, and Nissan aren’t just household names, they’re legends, dominating everywhere from Formula 1 to Le Mans. The Japanese approach to racing, always striving for improvement, respecting the craft, and working as a team – those things really speak to me.
Blending Two Worlds
For me, being part of both these cultures feels like a gift. From my New Zealand side, I try to embody that fearless, give-it-your-all attitude. From my Japanese side, I’ve learned the value of precision, patience, and respect for the sport. Together, I believe they give me a unique perspective on racing and life.
I know I’m just starting my journey, but it’s exciting to think about following in the footsteps of people like Bruce McLaren, Liam Lawson, and Takuma Sato. They’ve set the bar incredibly high, but their stories remind me that anything is possible if you work hard and stay true to yourself.
Every time I step into the car, I’m not just racing for myself—I’m racing for the cultures and people who’ve shaped me. It’s a privilege to carry this dual heritage, and I hope in the future to make both New Zealand and Japan proud as I chase my dreams.
For now, I’m focused on learning, improving, and enjoying every moment of the opportunities I am being given. The road ahead is long (well, hopefully!), but with the inspiration of those who came before me, I can’t wait to see where it leads.
